Northern Ireland’s New Online Planning Portal Draws Criticism from Architecture Community

Northern Ireland’s new £14 million online planning portal has been criticized as “unacceptably poor” by the Royal Society of Ulster Architects.

The portal was launched last month to streamline the planning process and make it paperless.

However, it has been plagued with problems such as search difficulties, poor map functionality, and problems tracking applications.

The architecture group warned that if the issues are not addressed, the local construction sector could slow down.

The director of the RSUA, Ciarán Fox, said:

The portal is “like a beta version has been released as the final version.”

He also called on the Department for Infrastructure to work with architects and users to address the problems urgently.

The department responded by saying they are working with the supplier to resolve the initial problems and that further improvements are expected next month.
